EU-Serb agreement on hold; Serbia government in turmoil; Kosovo prepares UDI
The signing of an “interim” agreement of an association between the European Union and Serbia has been canceled following a major split between the coalition parties of the Serbian government. The agreement, which was due to be signed on Thursday, gave Serbia closer trade relations and relaxed visa requirements for Serbian citizens.
Announcing the postponement, Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn, blamed “certain politicians in Belgrade” and expressed his hope that “problems can be sorted out shortly.”
“Of course, the EU commitment is firm and the invitation remains on the table,” he said.
